Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:

Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:

god adam eveGenesis 1: 24 – 31 King James Version

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Previously, we discussed the separation of the light from the darkness. I recently learned that the Latin term for this was once upon a time quite famous: Fiat Lux. To command by fiat is, indeed, an act of power. If you consider, for your own dream, that the darkness is the source of the dream, but the light is the means by which you make it come true, then you too must separate the darkness from the light. This is called a decision, a decision followed by a learning process to the point of victory.

That reviewed, I can make the case that for any person who wishes to fulfill a dream, the passage above is the most important in all of scripture. Made in the image of the creator, we are creators, ourselves. Made in the likeness of God, we are blessed, we are given dominion. All this is right there, in black and white. There is, for the ambitious dreamer, however, a missing element. If you just read the black and white of the letters and words, you’ll miss this critical transform. Do NOT think of THE world, as in the one that was here before you were born and will be here after you pass. Don’t think of the material, physical world, a planet and all the objective things that exist. Rather, you must think of the world you’re charged to take dominion over as…

Think of the earth, sky and sea that you yourself will travel, will live upon, will fight for and fight over during your time here. Think of the plants, animals and all other things as the material facts of your personal life. It is all granted to you, for your sustenance, for your power and victory, for your dream. And, it is up to you to ensure that every single fact of your life comes to be good, very good. And the evening and the morning are the days of your very life itself until you pass.

Power. Dominion. Ability. Blessing and the charge to be fruitful, yourself, over your life. If you simply accept the metaphorical force in the passage above, you’ll find the spiritual basis of the charge to know your dream and to do whatever you must to make it come to pass.

For 40 years, I failed to have dominion over my guitar, over my music. As I am transforming my world, now, into the one I have always dreamed it to be, I am taking dominion, and in the coming two essays, we’ll follow that path further, tomorrow and Wednesday.
